Hand of a Woman on Yellow Cream

In the heart of my small garden, nestled between aromatic herbs and colourful blooms, grows a patch of vibrant yellow calendula flowers. These cheerful marigolds have become more than just a treat for my rabbits; they’re the star ingredient in what has become my most cherished lip care creation: the Soothing Calendula Balm.

My journey with calendula began during a particularly stressful period in my life. My lips, always prone to dryness, had become painfully chapped and irritated. Commercial lip balms, even those claiming to be “healing,” seemed to offer little relief. It was during one of my many gardening therapy sessions that I noticed how soft my hands felt after handling the calendula flowers. Intrigued, I began researching this humble plant’s properties and was amazed to discover its long history of use in healing salves and balms.

Determined to harness calendula’s soothing power for my lips, I embarked on a new chapter in my lip balm-making adventure. The process of creating this balm became a labour of love, starting with carefully harvesting and drying the calendula flowers from my garden. I’ll never forget the satisfaction of making my first batch of calendula-infused olive oil, much to my bunnies annoyance as there favourite treat had now been repurposed for their mama’s needs. Watching as the golden petals slowly released their beneficial properties into the oil over several weeks was pure gold (no pun intended!)

Crafting the perfect balance of ingredients took time and patience. I wanted a balm that would not only soothe and protect but also provide deep, lasting moisture. The combination of calendula-infused olive oil, cocoa butter, and beeswax created a rich, creamy base that melts beautifully on the lips. Adding a touch of lavender and chamomile essential oils not only enhanced the calming properties but also imparted a gentle, comforting scent that I find incredibly relaxing.

The first time I applied my completed Soothing Calendula Balm to my irritated lips was nothing short of a revelation. The immediate sense of relief, the way it seemed to instantly calm and nourish my sore skin, was beyond what I had hoped for. Over the next few days, I watched in amasement as my lips transformed from dry and chapped to soft and healthy.

What I love most about this balm is its gentleness. It’s become my go-to not just for everyday lip care, but for those times when my lips need extra TLC. Whether it’s the harsh winter winds, too much sun exposure, or the drying effects of air travel, this calendula balm never fails to bring comfort and healing.

Creating this balm has deepened my appreciation for the healing power of plants. There’s something profoundly satisfying about using an ingredient I’ve grown myself to create a product that brings such comfort. It’s a reminder of the incredible resources nature provides us, often right in our own backyards.

This Soothing Calendula Balm has become more than just a lip care product; it’s a tiny pot of self-care. Each application is a moment to pause, to nurture myself, and to connect with the natural world. Sharing it with friends and family who struggle with sensitive or irritated lips has been a joy, watching as they too discover the gentle magic of calendula.
