Person Holding Round White and Pink lipbalm

There’s something inherently romantic about roses. Their delicate petals, their intoxicating fragrance, the way they seem to embody both strength and softness simultaneously. It was this duality that inspired me to create my Rose-Tinted Lip Balm, a product that marries the nurturing properties of a quality lip balm with the subtle enhancement of a light tint.

The journey to perfecting this rose-tinted balm was filled with both triumphs and challenges. My first attempts at creating a natural tint were less than successful – I ended up with balms that were either barely coloured or so vibrant they looked more suitable for the stage than everyday wear. The breakthrough came when I discovered the subtle pigmenting power of beetroot powder. This natural ingredient provided just the right amount of rosy hue, reminiscent of lips flushed from a brisk walk through a blooming garden.

Incorporating the rose scent proved to be another delightful experiment. I wanted something that evoked the essence of roses without being overwhelming. After trying various essential oils, I fell in love with rose geranium. Its sweet, floral aroma perfectly captured the spirit of roses while offering a softer, more complex scent profile.

The base of coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax came together to create a balm that glides on smoothly, providing lasting moisture without feeling heavy or greasy. Each application feels like a small act of self-care, a moment to pause and indulge in a touch of natural beauty.

What I adore most about this Rose-Tinted Balm is its versatility. It’s perfect for those days when you want to enhance your natural beauty without the fuss of full makeup. The subtle tint gives lips a healthy, rosy glow, while the nourishing ingredients keep them soft and supple. It’s become my go-to for everything from rushed mornings to leisurely weekend brunches.

Creating this balm has also given me a deeper appreciation for the power of natural ingredients. There’s something magical about transforming simple, organic components into a product that not only cares for your skin but also boosts your confidence. Every time I apply it, I’m reminded of those sun-drenched Provençal fields and the timeless allure of roses.

This Rose-Tinted Balm has become more than just a part of my beauty routine; it’s a small daily luxury, a way to carry a bit of nature’s beauty with me wherever I go. It’s been a joy to share it with friends and see their delight at the subtle enhancement it provides. There’s a unique satisfaction in knowing that something you’ve crafted with your own hands can bring such pleasure to others.

  • 1/4 teaspoon beetroot powder
  • 5 drops rose geranium essential oil

Tools

  • Double boiler (or a heat-safe glass bowl and a saucepan)
  • Small jars or lip balm tubes
  • Kitchen scale (for precise measurements)
  • Stirring utensil (a small whisk or spoon)
  • Dropper (for essential oils)
  • Small funnel (optional, but helpful for filling tubes)
  • Labels (for marking your creations)

Instructions

  1. Melt the coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax in a double boiler.
  2. Once fully melted and combined, add the beetroot powder.
  3. Whisk thoroughly to ensure the powder is evenly distributed and there are no clumps.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Add the rose geranium essential oil
  6. Pour into containers and allow to cool.

Notes

It's important to note that beetroot powder can sometimes settle at the bottom if the mixture cools too quickly. To prevent this, you might need to stir the mixture a few times as it's cooling to ensure even distribution of color.

Also, start with a small amount of beetroot powder (about 1/4 teaspoon per batch) and adjust as needed. You can always add more for a deeper tint, but it's harder to correct if you add too much.

Embrace natural beauty with this subtly tinted, floral-scented balm. The delicate rose hue, achieved through beetroot powder, adds a touch of colour while nourishing your lips. Rose geranium essential oil provides a lovely, uplifting scent that’s reminiscent of a blooming garden. The combination of coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax ensures your lips stay soft and protected. It’s perfect for those days when you want a hint of makeup without the fuss, offering a natural, fresh-faced look.
